Cape Food

This past weekend in Cape Cod revolved around food and drinks… food and drinks… and more food and drinks. Lemme give you the run down in pictures..

Our first morning included pastries and donuts.. which were around the house ALL weekend so lots of snacking involved these lovely puffs of heaven.

One word. CANDY.

A crab cake egg white omelette with vegetables and a side of fruit. This was especially delicious since it was enjoyed while staring at the water.

My mom’s special pumpkin chocolate chip bread. This stuff is seriously insane.

An amazing dinner at The Naked Oyster which included Lobster Bisque (sorry for the terrible picture) and salad with tuna sashimi. Score 🙂

Needless to say, I am on my best behavior this week when it comes to eating as healthy as possible. I’m also trying to work out every day this week up until Sunday! It’s going to be a challenge but I know I can do it 🙂

Question of the Night: Do you have a favorite breakfast you look forward to on special occasions? My mom always buys pastries when my sister or I go to visit them.



Hi peeps! How’s it going? Okay, okay I have to admit.. I haven’t been the best blogger when it comes to taking pictures of my food lately. There has been other things going on in life that have just triumphed that area of the blog and I’ve been talking about other things. But, hey, I guess it happens. However, I am going to make more of a conscious effort to write up some posts’ about what I’ve been eating on a daily basis.

Anyhow, I still wanted to participate in Jenn’s What I Ate Wednesday and show you a few of the things I have been eating over the past week or two. Hope you enjoy, and as always, thank you to Jenn for throwing this together!

Question of the Day: What is the best meal you have had lately?


It’s been so long! Well maybe not SO long — technically I did leave you with a fashion post last Thursday prior to enjoying Labor Day Weekend. Dancing, drinking, and eating were on the agenda for my LDW and I wanted to show you a little bit of that before sharing my What I Ate Wednesday eats.

It was nice to get out of the city and spend time with my college friends. Onto WIAW — thanks, as always to Jenn for throwing this together! PS – Can you believe it is officially September and the WIAW theme is ‘FALL into good habits’?! I can’t.

Breakfast was eaten around 8:15

In the mix was one cup of nonfat plain greek yogurt, a tbsp of oats, 1/4 cup frozen berries, and 1 tbsp of sunflower butter. This kept me full until 1:00 when it was time for lunch.

My salad was kind of lame, I hate to admit. A couple of slices of deli turkey with shredded soy cheese and raw mushrooms over a small bed of arugula. Lame-o. Whatevs, ya win some ya lose some right??

My snack around 4:45 was an unpictured Asian pear. If you haven’t had an Asian pear, I suggest buying one! They are super delicious and can be found in almost any grocery store 🙂

And finally for dinner, which was eaten around 8:15, was a salad which consisted of arugula, a Trader Joe’s veggie burger, some soy cheese, and crushed tortilla chips. I topped it all with a tbsp of BBQ sauce. Quick and delicious!

Sushi and Sake

Happy Saturday! How has your weekend been so far? I just finished up a great workout and am relaxing a bit before I clean my apartment. It needs some taking care of but not before I rest a little 🙂 Life lately has been go, go, go and I can just tell that my body and mind are exhausted — so the cleaning comes after I take care of myself.

Last night I traveled to Ridgewood, New Jersey to see my friend Jenn’s apartment. Jenn lives with her boyfriend, Ryan, who is a wonderful guy. I couldn’t be more happy that they were able to find such a beautiful and comfortable place to live! After checking out their place, we all headed out for sushi and drinks. Ryan and Jenn brought me to a great place and I can’t rave enough about how delicious the sushi was.

Jenn and I decided to split a bottle of red while Ryan drank his beloved sake. Ryan is somewhat obsessed with sake and we were all trying to think about if it may be considered ‘healthier’ than other alcoholic beverages so I did a little research and this is what I found:

‘Sake can help reduce the risk of cancer as well as help prevent Cirrhosis, Arteriosclerosis, Cardiac Infarction, Osteoporosis, and aging and senility.’ (source). Huh — who’d have thought?

We started the meal with edamame:

We decided to split a total of four rolls between us (plus we ordered an extra roll after we finishd the first four.. so I guess that means we really split a total of five) and each roll was better than the last. I was so impressed with the quality of the fish and how delicious the rolls were. I’d happily go back!

After dinner, we stopped by a bar for some drinks before calling it a night:

Family Day/Friends Night

What’s going on peeps? How’s your week going so far? We are almost at Wednesday which makes me absolutely thrilled that there’s only two and a half more days ’til the weekend. Anyway, I wanted to continue my weekend re-cap post this evening since so much went on.

On Saturday, my sister and I met up with our parents for brunch at Serendipity. Serendipity is a staple in the NYC area known for it’s over-the-top desserts and infamous frozen hot chocolate. My mom has been talking about how much she has wanted this frozen hot chocolate for about a year now and it was time for her to kick the craving! We ordered two – one for my sister and I to share and one for my mom and dad to share. These things aren’t exactly small. Portion control? Not so much.

So I’m not kidding when I say that this was absolutely freakin fantastic. I really enjoyed that the whipped topping was home made and it complimented the chocolate nicely. The chocolate shavings were a nice touch, too 😉 Even though we enjoyed our respective frozen hot chocolate’s to the max, we didn’t enjoy the food at all. Gillian and I each ordered more or less the same egg white omelette and I can truly say I didn’t even find it to be average. The conclusion? Don’t order a meal at Serendipity, order dessert only!

I felt super full after our decadent brunch so it was a good thing we had an afternoon of walking around scheduled. Our first stop was the Highline, which is basically a walking path/park located on the top of a bunch of buildings. I was able to get some pretty great pictures of the views from above!

Following the Highline, it was time to meander around Chelsea Market. Chelsea Market includes a variety of food/beverage/craft vendors which sell local produce/meats/cheeses/beers/sweets/snacks. While it was really crowded since we went on a Saturday, it was nice to be able to look around at some items you don’t tend to see in generic stores. Next up? The West Village where we shopped around for a while before calling it quits for an afternoon cocktail (yes this was my idea). It was soooo hot out and a bellini sounded really nice 😉

Our day was so much fun and it was really nice to be able to spend some quality family time together. My parents live in Cape Cod, Gillian is in Philly for school, and as you know I live in New York City, so spending time together is pretty rare.

The night time called for drinks and dancing with friends! As Nikki mentioned to me, she got a kick out of my Instagram pictures this weekend (if you don’t follow me, my user name is StephSkork). My friends and I are quite the candid group of people and can basically have a good time wherever we go. It’s the best.

And that’s my weekend in a nut shell! I felt so fantastic on Monday to re-start my clean eating and to get in a workout for an hour. This Summer has been filled with many indulgences in the form of alcohol and late night eating. It’s important to balance it all out with sweaty workouts and nutritional meals during the week. I’ve undoubtedly been having a blast this Summer but I don’t want to feel like crap because I’m constantly eating/drinking crap! Staying on track is important when you’re weekends (or mine at least) veer a little off course.

Stanton Social

Hi there! How was your weekend? Mine was so jam-packed that I’ll be re-capping it in a few posts. My parents and sister both came to NYC for the weekend so my days were filled with running around with them and then the evenings consisted of going out until the wee hours of the night with my friends. Safe to say it was a blast. It’s also safe to say that I ate and drank so much. This weekend was basically a constant party and I loved every minute. My ‘clean eating’ started fresh again today, but let’s look at some not so clean eating — ’cause that’s more fun, let’s be honest.

On Friday night, my parents, my sister Gillian, and my former room mate and friend Alyssa all went to a restaurant called The Stanton Social. Alyssa’s parents and my parents have become good friends over the years and it was great for her to be able to us since she feels like family anyway! Gillian and I got dolled up at my apartment first and then we were on our way.

I’ve been wanting to go to Stanton Social for a while now and was so happy to be able to get reservations. The menu is set up for sharing so we ordered ten different dishes which was definitely enough for five people. Unfortunately I didn’t capture every single dish but I was able to get a good amount!

Apple and Brie Quesadillas topped with bacon bits – These were so jam packed with flavor. I loved the combination of the apple and the brie. But then again – brie is brie and I could basically eat it everyday. Do you agree? If not, we can’t be friends — kidding 😉

Chicken and Rice – Again, this dish was chock full of flavors. My dad and I agreed that the rice had almost a risotto consistency which was really nice.

Sea Bass Fish Tacos – I have to say, this may have been my favorite of all the dishes we ordered. Seafood perfection.

French Onion Soup Bread Pops – So basically I don’t need a description for this. The picture says it all.

Meatballs – This was actually my least favorite dish. For some reason the meatballs seemed kind of bland and the sauce was nothing special.

All in all, Stanton Social was fantastic. It’s definitely a loud place, but the food and drinks are totally worth it.

After dinner, Alyssa, Gill, and I met up with my friend John for some drinks.

Question of the Night: What is your favorite Summer time drink?


Hi there! It’s Thursday night which means tomorrow is quite possibly the best day of all.. Friday! Is anyone else as excited as me? I’m sure I am not alone 😉 Last night, three of my friends and I met up for dinner at a restaurant called ilili. The next week or two is ‘Restaurant Week’ here in NYC where many restaurants participate in providing three course meals for very reasonable prices. We decided to take advantage of this opportunity and ilili was the perfect place to go!

As soon as I walked into ilili I loved the decor – understated, sleek, and clean.

My friend Krystyna and I were the first to arrive so we decided to take advantage of the happy hour cocktail menu. I ordered the St. Germain Cocktail which consisted of Cava and Elderflower Liquer and Krystyna ordered a glass of rose sangria. I can’t speak for Krystyna, but my cocktail was crisp and delicious.

Shortly after sipping on our drinks, Danielle and Brittany arrived and it was time to be seated! The area in which we ate was also really beautiful:

ilili is a restaurant with Mediterranean cuisine, and I absolutely love Mediterranean food. Give me some hummus and pita chips and I’m a happy camper. The way that the Restaurant Week menu was set up was so that each person is able to pick two starters, one main entree, and then finish the meal with a chocolatey dessert. Our waitress recommended that being there was four of us, we should each pick two different starters so we could all share. It was a great idea and we were all able to try so many different dishes; hummus, Fattoush (Lebanese Garden Salad), Mouhamara (a spread of walnuts, sundried peppers, and pomegranate), falafel, and Moussaka (eggplant, tomato, garlic, onion, olive oil). All of this came with pita bread for dipping.

Every single thing was so delicious. I’m not sure what I liked more–the Moussaka or the Falafel–but honestly, everything was so flavorful and all of the dishes complimented eachother very nicely. I could have just had my cocktail and the starters and been totally fine.

But of course we had to have our main course! Since the waitress told me that ilili is known for it’s lamb, I decided to go out on a bit of a limb and go for it! And I’m so glad I did. Generally I don’t eat lamb or red meat, but it was restaurant week and I thought, ‘why not?’. The lamb was served with orange segments, a garlic whipped mousse, and lettuce cups so that the lamb could be made into lettuce wraps:

HOLY CRAP. This dish was insanely delicious. All of the flavors were paired perfectly and the lamb couldn’t have been cooked any better.

And finally? Dessert. Dessert came in the form of a mini chocolate cake with a home made whipped cream and a home made chocolate sauce.

I took a bite or two of my dessert, but to be honest, I didn’t like it so much. It cured a little sweet tooth craving, but the starters and entree really kicked this dessert’s booty.

It’s safe to say that my friends and I left super full and with a fond love for ilili. I already can’t wait to go back!
