WIAW

Hello hello and here we are for another What I Ate Wednesday thanks to Jenn 🙂 This is a look at what I ate on Tuesday… so let’s just pretend that all of this actually happened today.

My day started off with an awesome early morning workout after I voted! I started off with thirty minutes of cardio intervals and then completed a short but sweet arm workout and then headed home to this for breakfast:

My breakfast, which was eaten around 8:15, included egg beaters with low fat shredded mozzarella cheese along with two mini oatmeal chia seed muffins. I topped my muffins with a little low fat cream cheese and sugar free jelly 🙂

This meal kept me super full and I didn’t eat lunch until 1:30 (and shockingly had no snacks between breakfast or lunch–weird, I know). Lunch included about six ounces of baked chicken along with vegetables and a bag of 100 calorie pop chips.

Around 5:00 I had a handful of un-pictured grapes. After work I had an errand to run and was starving once I got home. Against my judgement, I had a handful of crackers but didn’t want to keep snacking so I ordered sushi:

I ordered a miso soup, sashimi, a roll with brown rice, and two pieces of brown rice sushi but the restaurant I ordered from was kind enough to include a free California roll! Score! I wound up saving half of my California roll and two pieces of my tuna roll along with one piece of sushi which I will eat tomorrow.

I’d say this was a pretty good day of food 🙂 Tryna’ keep it as healthy as possible before Thanksgiving! I know those will be a few days with tons of treats. Can’t wait!

Sunday Nights

Sunday nights for me, like most people, are bitter-sweet. There’s a ton of TV and relaxing to do after the weekend comes to a close, but there’s also the anticipation of the week ahead. And whose kidding – Monday’s aren’t particularly fantastic for anyone. I’ve kind of made it a point to make my Sunday evenings filled with preparing food for the following few days, sipping on a little red wine, and enjoying some Real Housewives of Whatever. It’s incredibly relaxing and makes the following few days — food wise — very easy.

So here’s a look at what my Sunday evening’s consist of:


A salmon filet marinated in ginger dressing I had saved from my sushi a few days earlier. Makes for the perfect end-of-the-weekend dinner.


Baking chicken for the week.


Veggies with some olive oil and sea salt.


Chocolate Chip Chia Seed Muffins adapted from Green Lite Bites.

Now I’m set for the next couple of days for breakfast and lunch! It rocks, quite honestly 🙂

VitaPizza

A few weeks ago, I was lucky enough to receive the new VitaPizza’s from the generous people at VitaLicious. These pizza’s could not have come at a better time, with Sandy causing an upheaval in food purchasing and basically leaving shelves empty. I was able to try both the Meatless Pepperoni Supreme and Cheese & Tomato.

I was so happy to be able to try these new pizza’s – who doesn’t want to taste-test PIZZA? Now don’t get me wrong, obviously these aren’t the kind of slices you pick up at your local Italian restaurant, but sometimes that’s a good thing. We don’t always need to be eating tons of cheese and thick-cut crust that makes us feel lazy right after we consume it. I’m always up for some pizza here and there – in fact I had a slice (and a half) myself the other weekend – but I’m glad to have this as an alternative.

First up was the Meatless Pepperoni Supreme. I’ve always been a fan of pepperoni, so I decided to give this one the first try.

What I loved was the ‘meatless’ pepperoni – it was full of flavor but not too overwhelming. The only thing I felt this pizza was lacking was cheese. I wish there had been a little more cheeese! Then it would have been perfect.

Next up was the Cheese and Tomato:

This one was my favorite out of the two. There was the perfect ratio of cheese and tomato sauce which I really enjoyed.

Overall, I think these are a great alternative for when that pizza craving hits. They make a great meal when accompanied by a side salad or a small soup 🙂

Question of the Day: What is your favorite topping to have on your pizza? Or do you prefer plain cheese? Thin or thick crust? I love mushrooms and onions on my pizza and I think I enjoy thick crust more but there’s definitely something delicious about thin crust!

Cape Food

This past weekend in Cape Cod revolved around food and drinks… food and drinks… and more food and drinks. Lemme give you the run down in pictures..


Our first morning included pastries and donuts.. which were around the house ALL weekend so lots of snacking involved these lovely puffs of heaven.


One word. CANDY.

A crab cake egg white omelette with vegetables and a side of fruit. This was especially delicious since it was enjoyed while staring at the water.


My mom’s special pumpkin chocolate chip bread. This stuff is seriously insane.

Happy hour with complimentary goldfish. Done and done.

An amazing dinner at The Naked Oyster which included Lobster Bisque (sorry for the terrible picture) and salad with tuna sashimi. Score 🙂

Needless to say, I am on my best behavior this week when it comes to eating as healthy as possible. I’m also trying to work out every day this week up until Sunday! It’s going to be a challenge but I know I can do it 🙂

Cape Cod Love

Hey there! My friends Britt, John, and I are officially on the Cape for our long weekend 🙂 We arrived here late Wednesday night and all of the fun and activities began yesterday. On the agenda for yesterday was a big breakfast of pastries, walking around Provincetown, lunch, drinks, and more food. I’ll have a whole post of the meals we ate once I return to NYC.

Needless to say, I woke up this morning with quite the stomach ache. My stomach is just not used to eating chocolate, cheese, crackers, and candy all in one day. On one hand, that’s a good thing because I have trained myself to be as healthy as possible, on the other hand, it’s a bit annoying. But then again, when you eat as much junk as possible in 24 hours, I think that would happen to just about anyone.

We’ve been laughing so much our sides hurt, and relaxing so much our brains are becoming mush! Both of those things are totally fine with me 🙂 I was pretty proud that I managed to get in an hour walk this morning along with a small arm workout before everyone else woke up. Not too shabby.

Today we plan to drive around the Cape, maybe go pumpkin picking, and we have reservations for dinner later tonight!

WIAW

Happy WIAW everyone! I am going to be showing you what I ate yesterday — so this is technically a ‘What I Ate Tuesday’.. but I’m still showing it on Wednesday so there ya go! Thanks as always to Jenn for throwing this shin-dig together. Also, at the end of this post I have a great give away for all of you! Make sure to enter 🙂

For breakfast, which was eaten around 8:15-8:30, I whipped up some ‘Pumpkin Cheesecake Oats’ — these were amazing and I will definitely be making them more often.

It’s really simple to make these. What you’ll need:

-1/2 cup plain oats
-1 tbsp chia seeds
-about one cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk (or any milk you prefer)
-1 dash each of sea salt, cinnamon, and pumpkin spice
-2 tbsp lowfat plain cottage cheese
-2 tbsp pure pumpkin
-1 tbsp low sugar maple syrup

Directions: Stir oats, chia seeds, milk, and spices+sea salt over heat. Once thoroughly cooked, transfer to your bowland mix in the cottage cheese and pumpkin. Then drizzle the maple syrup on top if you choose!

This kept me full for a while. I didn’t eat lunch until 1:00. On Sunday night, I roasted some sweet potato, eggplant, and tempeh in the oven at 350 degrees for about twenty minutes. I simply chopped the eggplant and sweet potato and sprinkled olive oil and sea salt over them. For the tempeh, since I purchased it plain, I marinated it in an Asian ginger dressing for a little while before placing it into the oven. Both the vegetables and tempeh are delicious and together they create a healthy, filling lunch. I also throw in a 60 calorie string cheese for fun 🙂

(FYI, I picked at a granola bar throughout the day — I usually have about half before lunch and the other half after)

I also did something yesterday that I never do — I booked a last minute hour massage appointment for right after work. After a weekend of not working out, I worked out on Monday and my body was so stiff. I literally suffered through my workout and I know it’s because I’m just tight and sore–primarily in my back and legs. There’s plenty of reasons for this — running around the city, being busy, and working out–but I needed to fix it so I decided to skip the gym and get a massage instead! I booked my appointment through Lifebooker which is a discount beauty website that includes manicures, massages, hair treatments, you name it. Check it out!

I’m Right Hurr

Hello peeps! No I did not disappear but I was certainly absent from this blog for the past couple of days — but I have good reason! Things have been super busy lately and I just didn’t have the time or energy to get a post up. But don’t worry, I’m right hurr. Lemme show you what I’ve been up to since my WIAW post.

On Thursday night I was lucky enough to go to the Jay Z concert with my friend Lara. I knew he was performing in Brooklyn at the new Barclay Center practically all of last week, but didn’t think I would have the opportunity to attend one of the shows — so when Lara asked me to go last minute, I was so pumped. The concert was absolutely incredible — he performed for a little over an hour and a half and I loved every single second.


Lara and I at dinner before the concert — I’ll definitely have a restaurant review of this restaurant up within the next few days!

Insert Friday where I was super tired from the concert (totally worth it) and had a very busy day at work. After work, Brittany and I babysat for a friends son — he’s the cutest little thing and we were happy to do it.

Saturday included two birthday parties to go to. But not before going to the hair salon to get my hair highlighted.. blonder! I had been anxiously waiting this appointment (I go to Bumble and Bumble, by the way!) and was really happy with the outcome:

After my hair appointment, I headed over to Hoboken to celebrate my friends, Jenn and Ashley’s, birthday at the Hoboken Beer Garden. It was so nice to have some beers and chat with my friends!

After a little while at the Beer Garden, a few of my friends and I left because we had another birthday to celebrate — my friend Krystyna’s! We went back to Krystyna’s place to freshen up and relax and then got ready for a night out.

After going to bed around 3:30 last night, I woke up at 9:00 this morning to meet my parents for brunch because they happened to be in town for a wedding. Now I’m back here and exhausted after a jam-packed few days. I’m kind of hoping for a bit of a slower week, but not so sure if that’ll happen. We’ll see! The past three days I have not exercised at all but that will be changing tomorrow morning.
