Hello hello and here we are for another What I Ate Wednesday thanks to Jenn 🙂 This is a look at what I ate on Tuesday… so let’s just pretend that all of this actually happened today.

My day started off with an awesome early morning workout after I voted! I started off with thirty minutes of cardio intervals and then completed a short but sweet arm workout and then headed home to this for breakfast:

My breakfast, which was eaten around 8:15, included egg beaters with low fat shredded mozzarella cheese along with two mini oatmeal chia seed muffins. I topped my muffins with a little low fat cream cheese and sugar free jelly 🙂

This meal kept me super full and I didn’t eat lunch until 1:30 (and shockingly had no snacks between breakfast or lunch–weird, I know). Lunch included about six ounces of baked chicken along with vegetables and a bag of 100 calorie pop chips.

Around 5:00 I had a handful of un-pictured grapes. After work I had an errand to run and was starving once I got home. Against my judgement, I had a handful of crackers but didn’t want to keep snacking so I ordered sushi:

I ordered a miso soup, sashimi, a roll with brown rice, and two pieces of brown rice sushi but the restaurant I ordered from was kind enough to include a free California roll! Score! I wound up saving half of my California roll and two pieces of my tuna roll along with one piece of sushi which I will eat tomorrow.

I’d say this was a pretty good day of food 🙂 Tryna’ keep it as healthy as possible before Thanksgiving! I know those will be a few days with tons of treats. Can’t wait!

Have a good day everyone 🙂

Last Friday Night..

..Started off with ordering sushi from I was super hungry from my workout so I was really glad that it was a speedy delivery. Not to mention that the sushi was delicious!

After sushi, it was time for a night out with my girllll frraaaannss..

(A night wouldn’t be complete without bromance, would it?)

Today’s schedule includes working out at Equinox — which by the way I am an official member of and couldn’t be more excited. I had once been a member a few years ago when I worked at the Equnox Spa during college and I had a free membership. While on the pricey side, Equinox is definitely a facility worth considering if you’re serious about working out and being in an environment where it’s encouraged by others!

Also on the agenda? Going for a brewery tour at Brooklyn Brewery with my friends! I’ve been wanting to do this for a while so it should be awesome considering the weather is amazing outside!

Have a fantastic weekend everyone 🙂

Question of the Day: If you belong to a gym, which gym do you go to?

Sushi and Sake

Happy Saturday! How has your weekend been so far? I just finished up a great workout and am relaxing a bit before I clean my apartment. It needs some taking care of but not before I rest a little 🙂 Life lately has been go, go, go and I can just tell that my body and mind are exhausted — so the cleaning comes after I take care of myself.

Last night I traveled to Ridgewood, New Jersey to see my friend Jenn’s apartment. Jenn lives with her boyfriend, Ryan, who is a wonderful guy. I couldn’t be more happy that they were able to find such a beautiful and comfortable place to live! After checking out their place, we all headed out for sushi and drinks. Ryan and Jenn brought me to a great place and I can’t rave enough about how delicious the sushi was.

Jenn and I decided to split a bottle of red while Ryan drank his beloved sake. Ryan is somewhat obsessed with sake and we were all trying to think about if it may be considered ‘healthier’ than other alcoholic beverages so I did a little research and this is what I found:

‘Sake can help reduce the risk of cancer as well as help prevent Cirrhosis, Arteriosclerosis, Cardiac Infarction, Osteoporosis, and aging and senility.’ (source). Huh — who’d have thought?

We started the meal with edamame:

We decided to split a total of four rolls between us (plus we ordered an extra roll after we finishd the first four.. so I guess that means we really split a total of five) and each roll was better than the last. I was so impressed with the quality of the fish and how delicious the rolls were. I’d happily go back!

After dinner, we stopped by a bar for some drinks before calling it a night:

Now I’m off to rest some more and get to that cleaning! Have a great rest of your weekend 🙂

Memorial Day Weekend 2012

Hi hi, everyone. I hope you’re all nice and relaxed after a wonderful three (or for some of you lucky peep’s) four day weekend. Mine was spent in Sea Bright, New Jersey with a couple of my best friends. The entire weekend consisted of food, drinks, sun, beach, talking, going out, and doing it all over again. I haven’t had a weekend like this in a while, so I was really sad to see it end.

My friend Rebecca and I went down to Sea Bright very early on Saturday morning to meet up with our friend Eva and by the time we got there we were starving! We all knew we wanted to get brunch at The Turning Point; which has basically become our go-to breakfast/brunch spot. Let’s just say our eyes were bigger than our stomach’s. We ordered so much food and basically finished half of everything.

The above is the Turning Point’s ‘Fruit Bruschetta’ which I cannot not order every single time I eat there. It’s basically toasted pita points baked with cinnamon sugar and topped with a delicious fruit salad. I don’t need to say anything else.

Eva and Rebecca each ordered the Lobster Eggs Benedict:

I went for the ‘Fit and Trim Combo’ which was a honey wheat wrap filled with egg whites, sliced turkey sausage, spinach and tomatoes. It was supposed to come with a cup of oatmeal but I subbed mine for a cup of greek yogurt.

I freakin’ loved my choice for brunch but could only finish half of the wrap and half of the yogurt. Such a shame because it was so good! And yes, we all decided to order pancakes to split… which, surprise surprise, we could only each manage about five bites. Like I said, we felt hungrier than maybe we actually were.

A shot of my lovely friends:

A majority of our Saturday and Sunday were spent doing very stressful things like this:

Happy hour’s on our balcony facing the water wasn’t so bad either:

After some happy hour fun, the girls and I had reservations for a sushi place called Sawa which was right in town. It was definitely an enjoyable experience, as the food was very fresh and the service was fantastic.

We started with edamame (and a bottle of white vino) for the table to split:

Rebecca and I also split the Crispy Ginger Duck Roll, which was excellent:

For my entree, I went with the Wasabi Tuna Salad which was basically seared tuna and avocado over salad with ginger dressing. My picture didn’t come out that great — sorry 😦

But I did get a nice, albeit blurry shot of Rebecca, Eva, and I!

On Sunday night, Rebecca actually had a wedding to go to, so Eva and I decided to check out a popular restaurant called Avenue. While kind of pricey, we had so much good food and a wonderful view of the ocean. I really can’t complain over here.

We started off with a little tin of fresh bread which was basically saving my life since we weren’t able to get reservations until 9:00 PM.

Eva and I decided that Grilled Octopus sounded delicious as a starter, so we agreed to split it — and I am very glad we did. It was so delicious and was the perfect light choice to begin our meal:

For her main course, Eva went with the mussels and french fries while I ordered the Exotic Mushroom and Tempeh Fricassee. The Mushroom and Tempeh Fricasse came with kale, leeks, brussels sprouts, and grilled cippolini onions. To die for.

And of course, no ‘real’ dinner is complete without dessert so we ordered the pistachio and chocolate crepe which was actually the perfect amount. We each had a few bites and our sweet tooth was satisfied:

Monday came and went, as we basically woke up, ate breakfast, and hit the road. I was so sad to leave, but incredibly grateful for such a fun and care-free trip. I think the beach and I are going to be very close friends this Summer.

Once I got back to good old NYC, I hit up the gym for an intense workout and re-stocked my kitchen with the healthy weekly essentials:

It felt amazing to really break a sweat and get back into the swing of things. Last week was virtually impossible to workout because of my wisdom teeth surgery and as you can see from the above pictures, the most working out I did was walking from restaurant to restaurant and pouring myself some Skinny Girl Margarita. This week I plan to eat as healthy as possible and get in some real, solid workouts!

Now I’m off to be lazy and make a salad for dinner. Have a great Monday evening 🙂

Question of the Night: What did you do this Memorial Day Weekend? Did you have good food/drinks?

Re-Charge Those Batteries

It’s Sunday already – I can’t believe it. How was your weekend?? Mine was jam-packed. I’ll have more for you tomorrow with the eats, but for now, I’ll give you a quick run down:

Friday: Dinner with the girls followed by some bar time.
Saturday: Brunch followed by shopping with a family friend who was in NY from LA.
Saturday night: Decided very last minute (6 PM) that I wanted to head to my parents’ house to RELAX.
Sunday: A cardio-filled workout at the gym with my friend Rebecca followed by a mani/pedi.

I was very happy that I went with my gut to leave the city for a total of 36 hours. With all of the running around that’s been going on – my body and mind were telling me that I needed to get out of the “go, go, go” for a little bit to sleep and watch excessive re-runs of trashy television. Another little thing was also calling me home:

In my comfy pajamas with Spanky = my kind of Sunday morning. And no, I am not choking him.

I think tonight calls for some take out.. sushi maybe? Likely followed by fro yo… now that sounds GOOD!

Have a relaxing Sunday, everyone.

Question: What do you do whenever you start to feel a little run down?

It’s Friddayyyy, it’s Friiddaayyy (insert happy dance BBM face here)<–that was for all Blackberry users. Everyone probably has either a fun and/or relaxing Friday night to attend to, but I wanted to stop by and share my dinner with you from last night! Two co-workers and I went to a restaurant called Citrus, but not before a drink on the porch!

Meet Hattie

Meet Jackie

After some fun girl talk, we were all pretty hungry and headed on over to Citrus. We were surprised with how packed the place was, but this generally means that the restaurant must be good. I am pleased to say that Citrus was a hit amongst all three of us. The drink list had a nice amount of cocktails along with wine and beer. The dinner menu was a fusion of asian meets ‘upscale’ mexican.

Inside Citrus

To start, we ordered the Trio of Dips; ‘fresh made guacamole, smoked pinto bean-queso fundido dip & pico de gallo with flour tortillas…’

I loved every single dip. My favorite may have been the pico de gallo because it was so fresh, but of course, the guac was incredibly tasty. But guac is guac… I’ve never had a bad guac! 🙂

By the time we were finished munching on our appetizer, I was actually pretty full, so I was glad that the Asian Yellowtail Sashimi was what I ordered; with pickled jalapenos, olive oil, sea salt & a miso honey lemon sauce…

I really enjoyed this dish — all of the fish was super fresh, light, and tasty. The only downfall of Citrus? The service. Our waiter was really difficult to get a hold of and he constantly forgot to bring essentials including plates for the appetizer and a spoon for Jackie’s soup. But the best part of the night was spending time outside of work with my co-workers — we all needed a little fun!

Enjoy your Friday Night 🙂

I’m singing in the… Parking Lot?

Hey, guys! How did those of you on the East coast make out with Irene? Even though I’m over Irene and all of her nonsense, I am truly grateful that everything around my area and house turned out just fine. We are now experiencing some pretty high winds, but I have to say that this is as bad as it’s gotten.

Strange story for you–after the rain ended (around 12:00PM this afternoon) my mom and I decided to go for a walk. We both wanted coffee, so our walk took us to Starbucks. Well, the parking lot of Starbucks is pretty low, and upon arriving, we realized that the parking lot was totally flooded. Not only that, but there were a few people swimming in the parking lot! Swimming. In the parking lot. A-That’s gross; the water was brown and muddy. B-who double dog dared you to do that? C-Is it necessary to wear a full on wet suit in a parking lot filled with hurricane water? Maybe I sound a bit… un-amused? But seriously people, that’s just gross.

Moving right along. Prior to heading out on my walk, this morning was filled with a pretty awesome at-home workout. It didn’t consist of anything fancy, but after I found this on Julie’s blog, I wanted to give it a go!

The Tone It Up girls! While I don’t follow the Tone It Up diet plan (even though it sounds pretty reasonable.. and the results are totally true) I do love to do some of their workouts every now and then. Karena and Katrina have some butt-kicking moves and by the end of one circuit, I’m totally huffin’ and puffin’. Not attractive, but effective!

Once I’m in my new apartment, I can’t wait to do more Tone It Up workouts after a long work day. Going to the gym will be great for mornings, but there are some evenings where I want to do just a little bit more… this is definitely it!

During my workout, I watched some QVC (hey, my mom was in the room) and guess what was being sold?? My beloved VITAMIX!! I know I mentioned to you the other day about how much I wanted a Vitamix but the issue of it being $500 was just a wee bit over my budget. Okay so more than a wee-bit. The best news ever?? It was being sold on QVC for $363.00!! I totally realize that this is still a huge amount of money for a blender, but I really couldn’t believe that it was only $363.00. I have seen them go for $500 and $550.

So, during my awesome workout, I decided to take the plunge and purchase the Vitamix! WITH the help of my mother. I can’t believe how lucky I am! Without my mom it would not have been possible to even dream of purchasing the blender of my dreams ❤ 🙂

I see many home made nut butters, soups, shakes, and smoothies in my new apartment future!! All in all? An awesome way to spend a hurricane day! (Yes I just rhymed). Now I'm off to eat some sushi and watch some truly educational Sunday night TV (VMA's, Jersey Shore, RHONJ, Kardashian's… how will I be able to prioritize!?).

Question of the Night: What are you looking forward to watching on TV tonight?
