This Weekend I..

…Decorated the apartment for Halloween and finally put pictures on Britt and I’s fridge. We have been meaning to do this for a while and finally here we have it!

…Saw Argo. Go see it. It’s incredibly suspenseful and action-packed. I was legit on the edge of my seat. Yepp, I just said legit – if you haven’t noticed I like to abbreviate words. Hence, craycray. I digress.

I’m Right Hurr

Hello peeps! No I did not disappear but I was certainly absent from this blog for the past couple of days — but I have good reason! Things have been super busy lately and I just didn’t have the time or energy to get a post up. But don’t worry, I’m right hurr. Lemme show you what I’ve been up to since my WIAW post.

On Thursday night I was lucky enough to go to the Jay Z concert with my friend Lara. I knew he was performing in Brooklyn at the new Barclay Center practically all of last week, but didn’t think I would have the opportunity to attend one of the shows — so when Lara asked me to go last minute, I was so pumped. The concert was absolutely incredible — he performed for a little over an hour and a half and I loved every single second.

Lara and I at dinner before the concert — I’ll definitely have a restaurant review of this restaurant up within the next few days!

Insert Friday where I was super tired from the concert (totally worth it) and had a very busy day at work. After work, Brittany and I babysat for a friends son — he’s the cutest little thing and we were happy to do it.

Saturday included two birthday parties to go to. But not before going to the hair salon to get my hair highlighted.. blonder! I had been anxiously waiting this appointment (I go to Bumble and Bumble, by the way!) and was really happy with the outcome:

What do ya think??? You can be honest 😉

After my hair appointment, I headed over to Hoboken to celebrate my friends, Jenn and Ashley’s, birthday at the Hoboken Beer Garden. It was so nice to have some beers and chat with my friends!

After a little while at the Beer Garden, a few of my friends and I left because we had another birthday to celebrate — my friend Krystyna’s! We went back to Krystyna’s place to freshen up and relax and then got ready for a night out.

After going to bed around 3:30 last night, I woke up at 9:00 this morning to meet my parents for brunch because they happened to be in town for a wedding. Now I’m back here and exhausted after a jam-packed few days. I’m kind of hoping for a bit of a slower week, but not so sure if that’ll happen. We’ll see! The past three days I have not exercised at all but that will be changing tomorrow morning.

Have a great night, everyone 🙂

Question of the Night: When you go out to dinner or out with friends, what is your favorite drink to order? Do you have a go to?

A Saturday in Brooklyn

Hey there! How was your weekend? If you missed my Friday night over-view, check it out here. Onto the next–>Saturday! My friends and I had really been looking forward to Saturday because we had plans to head over to Brooklyn for a free tour of the Brooklyn Brewery. Brooklyn Brewery beer is really well known in NYC so we were pumped to check it out. We got ready at the apartment and headed out in time for our 5:00 tour:

I spotted this quote outside of the brewery which I now hold near and dear to my heart:

Once inside, we went into the back of the brewery — there was a group of about 40-50 of us — where a tour guide gave us some facts about how the brewery started and the differences between pale ales, lagers, and alcohol content. Quite honestly, the tour wasn’t as much of a tour as it was a lesson in the basics of beer, but it was still nice to do something different.

After the ‘tour’, the girls and I headed out to the beer garden which is attached to Brooklyn Brewery. It was time to have some beer! In order to get a beer, you need to have ‘beer coins’. Each coin costs only $5 and gets you one beer; not bad.

We each purchased a beer (I forgot which one I drank, sorry!) before heading off to dinner.

We didn’t make any reservations on purpose so that we would be able to walk around Brooklyn for a little bit. As someone who lives in Manhattan, I don’t head to Brooklyn nearly as much as I should. Before long, we spotted a restaurant that is really popular in Manhattan and happened to have a location in Brooklyn. The Meatball Shop! I had heard so many good things about this place and was stoked to learn that we only had to wait about ten minutes before being seated.

Once seated, we all agreed to split a pitcher of the ‘Bitches Brew’. While delicious, it was a tad on the sweet side.

For my entree, I rolled with the ‘Everything but the Kitchen Sink Salad’. I chose vegetable meatballs with pesto sauce. The dish also came with red beans, beets, marinated cucumbers (my favorite), and arugula.

I absolutely loved my entree — especially the vegetable meatballs paired with the pesto. Pesto isn’t something I eat too often, so this was a real treat. I must admit, though, that the vegetable meatballs didn’t seem to be completely on the healthy side. I’m not sure exactly how they were cooked, but they kind of tasted like falafel. Delicious nonetheless.

All in all it was a great day exploring an area that I’m not too familiar with. I will definitely be making more trips back!

Question of the night: When was the last time you visited a place you weren’t so familiar with? Where was it?

Last Friday Night..

..Started off with ordering sushi from Delivery.com. I was super hungry from my workout so I was really glad that it was a speedy delivery. Not to mention that the sushi was delicious!

After sushi, it was time for a night out with my girllll frraaaannss..

(A night wouldn’t be complete without bromance, would it?)

Today’s schedule includes working out at Equinox — which by the way I am an official member of and couldn’t be more excited. I had once been a member a few years ago when I worked at the Equnox Spa during college and I had a free membership. While on the pricey side, Equinox is definitely a facility worth considering if you’re serious about working out and being in an environment where it’s encouraged by others!

Also on the agenda? Going for a brewery tour at Brooklyn Brewery with my friends! I’ve been wanting to do this for a while so it should be awesome considering the weather is amazing outside!

Have a fantastic weekend everyone 🙂

Question of the Day: If you belong to a gym, which gym do you go to?

A Weekend in Long Island

Hello there, peeps! How was your Monday? I kind of can’t believe it’s over already… I surely don’t mind 🙂 This past weekend my room mate Brittany and I went out to visit her family in Long Island; it was such a great escape from the city. As much as I adore living in New York City, it can sometimes be a bit overwhelming. I know I have mentioned before (kind of lately), but the past two months have been insane – so busy somehow – and I haven’t found the time to relax whatsoever. Enter this weekend.

Friday night, Britt’s parents made us a delicious dinner of ribs and some sort of quinoa/five grain salad. The five grain salad included sun dried tomato’s and feta cheese — it could not have been more delicious. Let’s be clear here, people — I’m not really a ‘ribs’ kind of girl. For the amount of tofu and salads you see on this blog, I’m pretty sure you believe me. But it wasn’t until I had the ribs that I sort of realized I’ve been missing out! After dinner, we all vegged out and watched TV. It wasn’t too long before I was out like a light. I haven’t slept the way I slept this weekend and it was beyond incredible. I missed sleep so much. Need to get in back into my life.

When Saturday rolled around, all we really wanted to do was go to the beach, but since the weather was kind of on and off with clouds, so we decided to do what most girls would do.. SHOP! I am a professional shopper. Put me in a store and I can make something work in my wardrobe. If I didn’t work in Cosmetic Marketing I would love my career to go one of three ways… something in nutrition/fitness, editorial, or a stylist. I digress. We did damage:

And then went home to celebrate:

By the time we got home, we were all kind of hungry which turned out to be perfect because Britt’s dad had quite the meal planned for us. On the menu? Mediterranean chicken and stuffed eggplant. Yeah, we were absolutely spoiled food-wise this weekend. Britt’s dad let us help him out with the cooking and I definitely learned a thing or two.

After dinner, the girls decided it was time for a ‘girls night’ complete with party crashing.. yes you heard me correctly! 😛

Let’s just say we succeeded.

Sunday was fantastic as it was spent on Britt’s parents boat. We went tubing and had the best time. My arms are pretty sore today after fighting for my life in the water<–insert over-dramatics here.

Britt and I returned to our apartment Sunday night really tired and really full from all of the incredibly delicious food we ate this weekend. I started off fresh today–with a workout done by 7:30 AM and I have been eating clean all day. For the next few weeks I will be keeping a small food journal on my iPhone just to keep tabs on what I am eating and drinking.

As I have mentioned before, I've definitely been spluring throughout the Summer. Happy Hour's turned into later nights, indulgent foods on weekends, and Friday's and Saturday's mainly spent out on the town (does anyone say out on the town anymore?) I really need to watch a bit more. I'm totally okay with keeping a food journal for the next few weeks – it's not a forever thing – and it can only help me 🙂

Question(s) of the night: How was your weekend? What did you do? What are some steps you take trying to watch what you are eating a bit closer?

Family Day/Friends Night

What’s going on peeps? How’s your week going so far? We are almost at Wednesday which makes me absolutely thrilled that there’s only two and a half more days ’til the weekend. Anyway, I wanted to continue my weekend re-cap post this evening since so much went on.

On Saturday, my sister and I met up with our parents for brunch at Serendipity. Serendipity is a staple in the NYC area known for it’s over-the-top desserts and infamous frozen hot chocolate. My mom has been talking about how much she has wanted this frozen hot chocolate for about a year now and it was time for her to kick the craving! We ordered two – one for my sister and I to share and one for my mom and dad to share. These things aren’t exactly small. Portion control? Not so much.

So I’m not kidding when I say that this was absolutely freakin fantastic. I really enjoyed that the whipped topping was home made and it complimented the chocolate nicely. The chocolate shavings were a nice touch, too 😉 Even though we enjoyed our respective frozen hot chocolate’s to the max, we didn’t enjoy the food at all. Gillian and I each ordered more or less the same egg white omelette and I can truly say I didn’t even find it to be average. The conclusion? Don’t order a meal at Serendipity, order dessert only!

I felt super full after our decadent brunch so it was a good thing we had an afternoon of walking around scheduled. Our first stop was the Highline, which is basically a walking path/park located on the top of a bunch of buildings. I was able to get some pretty great pictures of the views from above!

Following the Highline, it was time to meander around Chelsea Market. Chelsea Market includes a variety of food/beverage/craft vendors which sell local produce/meats/cheeses/beers/sweets/snacks. While it was really crowded since we went on a Saturday, it was nice to be able to look around at some items you don’t tend to see in generic stores. Next up? The West Village where we shopped around for a while before calling it quits for an afternoon cocktail (yes this was my idea). It was soooo hot out and a bellini sounded really nice 😉

Our day was so much fun and it was really nice to be able to spend some quality family time together. My parents live in Cape Cod, Gillian is in Philly for school, and as you know I live in New York City, so spending time together is pretty rare.

The night time called for drinks and dancing with friends! As Nikki mentioned to me, she got a kick out of my Instagram pictures this weekend (if you don’t follow me, my user name is StephSkork). My friends and I are quite the candid group of people and can basically have a good time wherever we go. It’s the best.

And that’s my weekend in a nut shell! I felt so fantastic on Monday to re-start my clean eating and to get in a workout for an hour. This Summer has been filled with many indulgences in the form of alcohol and late night eating. It’s important to balance it all out with sweaty workouts and nutritional meals during the week. I’ve undoubtedly been having a blast this Summer but I don’t want to feel like crap because I’m constantly eating/drinking crap! Staying on track is important when you’re weekends (or mine at least) veer a little off course.

Before signing off, I wanted to shout out a reminder to Kim Whitbeck that you are the winner of my Cascadian Farm giveaway! Please email me at StephSnacks@gmail.com to claim your free granola 🙂

Stanton Social

Hi there! How was your weekend? Mine was so jam-packed that I’ll be re-capping it in a few posts. My parents and sister both came to NYC for the weekend so my days were filled with running around with them and then the evenings consisted of going out until the wee hours of the night with my friends. Safe to say it was a blast. It’s also safe to say that I ate and drank so much. This weekend was basically a constant party and I loved every minute. My ‘clean eating’ started fresh again today, but let’s look at some not so clean eating — ’cause that’s more fun, let’s be honest.

On Friday night, my parents, my sister Gillian, and my former room mate and friend Alyssa all went to a restaurant called The Stanton Social. Alyssa’s parents and my parents have become good friends over the years and it was great for her to be able to us since she feels like family anyway! Gillian and I got dolled up at my apartment first and then we were on our way.

I’ve been wanting to go to Stanton Social for a while now and was so happy to be able to get reservations. The menu is set up for sharing so we ordered ten different dishes which was definitely enough for five people. Unfortunately I didn’t capture every single dish but I was able to get a good amount!

Apple and Brie Quesadillas topped with bacon bits – These were so jam packed with flavor. I loved the combination of the apple and the brie. But then again – brie is brie and I could basically eat it everyday. Do you agree? If not, we can’t be friends — kidding 😉

Chicken and Rice – Again, this dish was chock full of flavors. My dad and I agreed that the rice had almost a risotto consistency which was really nice.

Sea Bass Fish Tacos – I have to say, this may have been my favorite of all the dishes we ordered. Seafood perfection.

French Onion Soup Bread Pops – So basically I don’t need a description for this. The picture says it all.

Meatballs – This was actually my least favorite dish. For some reason the meatballs seemed kind of bland and the sauce was nothing special.

All in all, Stanton Social was fantastic. It’s definitely a loud place, but the food and drinks are totally worth it.

After dinner, Alyssa, Gill, and I met up with my friend John for some drinks.

Such a fun night 🙂 Now I’m off to get my relaxation on – catch ya later!
